Cabin Camper Report 2008

Again the cabin campout was enjoyed by all that went - Me, Jim Jay, Al Kreher, Al Sona, Joe Hale, Bill Heine, Buzz Montgomery, Gerry Mohr.

One of the maintenance guys came to fix a light - however, within about 2 hours it was out again - and we told him about our yearly event. He said that it can hardly be called a "campout" anymore since we're in a cabin and - not camping out - anymore, we should change the name to "Cabin Retreat". What say the chapter ?

We had singing, movie watching (on a TV this time), more singing with Bill as our tenor - and - bari - and - of course, penny poker. The most played version was 7-card-no-peek with none to various cards wild. Buzz introduced a new one on most of us using 7 cards called Murder - it's a little hard to explain in the email - but - the last card turned up is the "murder" card meaning even if you are winning, you could be killed (forced to fold).

Conversations about a little of everything from the weather, politics, global warming (oops, sorry, Climate Change), our society with respect to music preservation and the election.

The pot luck food idea went very well - along with the chili for Sat lunch and dinner - and ending in homemade vanilla ice cream. Snacks were also plenty - from donuts, pistachios, potato chips, other chips to peanuts.

This year we sat outside more than ever because the weather permitted it.

I thought about having one - but - Bill did it ....yes...... he .....did it ........ having a fire in the fireplace - a small one. The next time I got up and passed by the thermostat, it already read 77 degrees. Although, since it was getting night time, it didn't take long for the furnace to kick on at 72.

I'm planning on the same time for next year - so we can invite the over chapters and have a really - big – retreat.

One of the highlights, was seeing an actual ....... preying mantis.
