Pamper Camper - Bygone Days

This came from an old Monthly Chapter Bulletin - August 18, 1986

Our annual Pamper Camper outings originated as a payoff for results of a membership drive contest. The Winning team was to be "pampered" by the Losing team. The Losers had to prepare meals and take care of all clean up after meals. The limits of the Losers obligation was exceeded by one of our past members who, as a member of the Winning team, yelled for Larry Forristal to bring him a urinal at 2 A.M. Sunday morning, Larry, being a conscientious loser, threw him an empty beer can.

The first campouts were held at Meramac State Park in October when there were few other campers and we had all the space we needed for our activities. One of the big problems we faced at that time was getting enough tents to provide shelter for all the campers. Since most of the tents were borrowed, it often took over half an hour to erect a tent even with the advisory help of all the "experts" on the sidelines.

Sports activities were also a little more demanding than they now are. We used to play touch football, bottle caps, Indian ball, and volleyball. Several members even went swimming in the river in October. We're now down to a vigorous game of horse shoes. When it gets to the point where a game of cards is the most active pastime we can handle, we'll know we've bottomed out.
