1995 “BARBERSHOPPER OF THE YEAR”

From 2006 Annual Show Program:

That Old Gang of Mine . . .

One of the aspects of singing with a barbershop chorus is the fellowship that we experience through the weekly meetings and the times that we perform for others. Memories of those fellow singers who have died become more vivid at the occasion of our annual show in the spring. In the last year - just before our 2005 show - two former members passed away. (Raye Lamkin was the other member)

Leo Applebaum was a kind gentleman who always had a good word for everyone he met. Besides singing lead, he was active in the administrative part of our chapter and held a variety of positions. He published a chapter bulletin for several years and was always able to bring interesting articles to us. Leo continued to sing with us for as long as his health permitted but finally had to drop out. Many people had their lives touched by Leo because his career path led him to places where he interacted with people and he helped them with their needs. We barbershoppers are fortunate to have called him one of our own.

We honor all the memories of these and others who have sung with us as we go on stage this evening. Their lives have touched ours with close harmony of song and with their friendship.

In the words of the old song, "You'll always be part of that old gang of mine."
