In Memoriam

Carl Daniel dies on September 24, 2000, after a recurring illness. Although he had only been associated with Florissant Valley for a little over two years, he influence on this chapter was profound. It is difficult to overestimate his importance to our music program.

A long-time Barbershopper with a wealth of chorus, quartet and directing experience, Carl became a charter member of the St. Charles Chapter in 1963, and spent three years as Director of what was then the Daniel Boone Chorus. He also was Assistant Director of the St. Charles Sweet Adeline Chapter and Director of the St. Louis Chordinals of Harmony, Inc. For ten years he was an active member of the Ambassadors of Harmony Chorus, during the time that this group became known for its accomplishments in international competition. He holds five International Medals for his service with this chorus. He also served as an Assistant Director witht eh St. Louis Suburban Chorus. He became Director of Florissant Valley in 1999, holding this position until his death.

Carl was an experienced quartet member and sang with a variety of quartets over the years, including the QUADRUPALS, St. Louis' supreme quartet for many years. More recently he sang with FOUR OF A KIND from Suburban Chapter and REVELATION from St. Louis No. 1 Chapter. Although he was a natural bass, he could and did sing all four parts when necessary.

Carl retired some years ago from Mallinkrodt after a thirty-five year career with that company. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Navy.

Carl was an extraordinarily dedicated barbershopper and director who made a huge contribution to us in a relatively brief period. He will be greatly missed and always remembered by every member of Florissant Valley. We were proud to present this show in his memory.

Goodbye Old Friend – Thanks for the Memories
