Larry's Memento

The Florissant Valley Chapter of the S.P.E.B.S.Q.S.A. has been in existence for forty-four years and during that time has been a joy to men who like to sing and enjoy the companionship of those who share their hobby. Those who have been members for several years become a family ans as in any family our most sorrowful experience is loss of one of our members or the loss of a member of their family due to illness or death. This year we again had to say goodbye to a member, one who has been with us for forty-two of our forty-four years.

Larry Forristal joined the chapter in its infancy and remained an active member until his death early this year. Over the years he had been active in many quartets that devoted their time and talent to entertaining members of charitable organizations and senior citizens groups. No matter what the occasion might be, he was always ready and anxious to sing the old songs if he could find three other parts to form a quartet, and his easygoing manner and keen sense of humor made him a joy to be with at any time. Until his health failed, he took part in every show and chorus performance the chapter conducted.

Having been a member of the Merchant Marines during WW-2 he had a special love for boats and the sea, no matter how small. So the things that mattered most to his life were his family, four-part harmony, and his pontoon boat while pretending to be fishing. His children and grandchildren have inherited his talent and love for music, and his children still remember the songs he taught them when they were just old enough to carry a tune. to our great loss and sorrow, Larry died on January 9th five days after his 85th birthday. He wife Helen and children, Larry, Mike, Lindsay, Patty and their families survive him. we extend our deepest sympathy to each of them.

To those who have spent time camping and fishing with him he is well known for his often used expression, “while your up, bring me a whatever.” And so we now say to him, “While your up there, reserve a place for us.” Until we meet again, we'll miss you.
