From 1997 Annual Show Program:

In Memoriam

We are dedicating this year's show to the memory of John Galloway – husband of our Director, Midge Galloway, one of the Society's outstanding barbershoppers for 36 years, Society Officer, judge, active chorus and quartet member, coach, chapter advisor, Friend. John died September 19, 1996. He left a huge vacancy.

A native of Wichita, Kansas, John was first exposed to barbershopping with the Topeka Chapter in 1965. When Southwestern Bell assigned him to St. Louis, he transferred to Alton. In 1969 he and Wayne Bradshaw, tonight's M.C., co-founded the Collinsville Chapter. When Midge Galloway became our Director, John assumed dual membership with us and quickly established himself as one of our best and most entusiastic singers. Over the years he was at one time or another Music V.P., contest advisor, coach, Stage Presence Coordinator, and Chorus Manager, among others.

John spent many years as a Certified International Judge in the Stage Presence Category, and was also an Illinois District Contest & Judging Chairman. In 1978 he was selected as District Southern Division Barbershopper of the Year. He was an active quartet bass throughout his barbershopping career, and competed in many area and district contests. He has attended every International Convention but two since 1965.

John sang for many years with the renowned Belltones Chorus of Southwestern Bell, which Midge directs. The two of them also shred an avid interest in gardening, and John was a certified Master Gardener.

John was an extraordinarily dedicated barbershopper who cared deeply about his singing and his chapter. He will be greatly missed and always remembered by every member of Florissant Valley. We are proud to present this show as a tribute to his memory.

     Goodbye, old friend
